From Southern California to Anchorage, Alaska

Saturday, October 28, 2006

Today my roommate Tiffany and I decided to head down to Girdwood, home a Alyeska Ski Resort. It is located about 35 miles south of Anchorage. The views along the drive were absolutely amazing.
Once we turned off the highway the roads were covered with snow and ice. That is the Prince Hotel at the end of the road.
This is the tram that goes up to the top of the mountain and to the upper lodge, it has two cars each holding up to 30 peopleMy roommate Tiffany and I One of the small creeks running along the trails

This morning I woke up to the ground mostly covered in snow. I know it is not much, but it also only Oct. Plus I am not used to snow outside at all, it is still in the low 80's in So. Cal.

Just a "little" friend wondering through our yard this morning. Moose are actually all over up here, yesterday I saw three other ones just munchin' on the side of the road.

It has been very clear the past few days around here, so today was the perfect day to go out flying. My roommates Uncle took me out today to see the surroundings.
This was my first experience in a small plane, it was so much fun, hopefully just the first of many

I just go my plates, I have never had a car without Washington plates, even while in California, so this is kind of neat for me.

This is my new apartment. Quite different going from a house back into an apartment, but am settling in just fine, it is starting to feel like home. This is what they look like from the outside , they have an eight car garage under all of them that all eight units share, plus plenty of parking around the perimeter.
From the front door you walk into a hall where you can go up the stairs or off to the left (which is this view). The bedrooms and one of the bathrooms, washer and dryer are off of this hall.
Upstairs is the kitchen, living room/dining room and another bathroom.

This is the view out of all the windows of the apartment, our side of the building has the best view of mountains. The mountains had more snow on them when I first arrived, but the weather has been unusually warm for this time of year. Though it is still a lot colder then I am used to.

Well I arrived in Anchorage last night, I don't really know what to think yet. My car and all of my stuff also arrived yesterday, so today I got to go pick everything up. Landon was kind enough to take me over and retrieve my stuff. Once at the port they requested my crate to be brought up front (it is the yellow one on top).
They broke the seal and opened it up I was very happy to see everything snuggled in tight.
It was like getting a new car all over again, since I really only got to drive it up to Seattle before.
We unloaded the couch and then took the mattresses off the top of my car and put then into Landon's pickup.
We headed from the port towards my apartment. The wind was really strong today and we had to stop and strap everything in, only after the mattress decided to fly out, hey, but those are the kind of things that add a little excitement to the moves.
